TIP FOR JOB SEEKERS

Keep track of where your CV is sent

Ever feel unsure of where your CV has ended up?

If you’ve sent it to multiple firms or through several recruiters, it’s easy to lose track. But recruiters usually have a 12-month exclusivity on introductions, so sending your CV to the same company through different channels can hurt your chances.

Here’s a simple way to keep things organized:

Step-by-Step CV Tracker:

  1. Create an Email Folder: Set up a folder in your inbox titled “CV Submissions.”

  2. Email Yourself: Whenever you send your CV or give a recruiter permission to submit it, email yourself the company name and recruiter details.

  3. File It: Move the email into your “CV Submissions” folder.

  4. Quick Check: If a new recruiter asks about a company, search the folder to see if you’ve already applied and how long ago.

Why It’s Important Not to Send Your CV Multiple Times to the Same Company:

  • It can come across as desperate or non-selective.

  • Companies may see it as a scattergun approach to job searching.

  • Recruiters could be accused of submitting without your consent.

  • The firm may be liable for double fees and could decide to skip your application altogether.

  • Future recruiters may avoid submitting you to avoid fee issues or damage to their reputation.

Stay organized, keep track, and make sure each submission counts!
