L/S Equity Analyst (Artificial Intelligence) – London

Octavius Finance, a specialist search firm focused on hedge funds, portfolio management and capital markets, is currently working on behalf of a leading, boutique single manager fund to appoint a senior Long / Short Equity Analyst or Sub-Portfolio Manager to join their investment team in London.

The firm manages a multi-billion-dollar global equity portfolio and has established a strong track record of generating alpha through fundamental, research-driven investing. With a concentrated, high-conviction investment approach, the team seeks differentiated insights across sectors undergoing structural change.

Joining a lean, high-performing investment team, you will play a central role in researching and investing across the global Artificial Intelligence ecosystem. Working closely with the Portfolio Manager, you will be responsible for identifying high-conviction long and short investment opportunities across the AI value chain, conducting deep fundamental research, and contributing directly to portfolio construction and capital allocation decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop deep fundamental coverage across the global AI ecosystem, including semiconductors, AI infrastructure, hyperscalers, networking, enterprise software, AI applications and the broader technology value chain.

  • Generate differentiated, high-conviction long and short investment ideas through proprietary fundamental research, financial modelling and industry analysis.

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, earnings forecasts and valuation frameworks for companies across the AI landscape.

  • Monitor industry developments, technological innovation, product roadmaps, competitive positioning and supply chain dynamics to identify investment opportunities.

  • Analyse secular AI adoption trends, capital expenditure cycles and emerging technologies across hardware and software markets.

  • Present investment recommendations and research findings directly to the Portfolio Manager.

  • Assist with portfolio construction, position sizing and ongoing monitoring of portfolio exposures.

  • Continuously review investment theses, portfolio performance and risk exposures, adapting views as new information emerges.

  • Engage with company management teams, industry experts, channel contacts and alternative data sources to develop differentiated investment insights.

Requirements

  • Approximately 3–8 years' experience in equity research, ideally within a buy-side investment firm or hedge fund.

  • Candidates from the sell side with strong technology research experience are also encouraged to apply.

Experience should include:

  • Coverage of companies across the Artificial Intelligence ecosystem, including software, semiconductors, networking, cloud infrastructure, enterprise technology or related sectors.

  • Deep fundamental equity research and financial modelling.

  • Developing actionable long and short investment recommendations.

  • Strong accounting, valuation and analytical capabilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for investing and global equity markets.

Applications are welcomed from professionals currently working within hedge funds, long-only asset managers or investment banks, provided they possess meaningful experience researching AI-related technology companies and can demonstrate a differentiated investment process.
