Geopolitical Economist / Senior Associate / Director

Location: London or New York

Octavius Finance is exclusively partnering with a leading global geopolitical advisory firm to appoint a Geopolitical Economist to join its international advisory practice.

This is an opportunity to advise some of the world's largest multinational organisations, financial institutions and investors on the geopolitical, economic and policy developments shaping global business.

Rather than producing economic forecasts in isolation, this role sits at the intersection of geopolitics, macroeconomics and corporate strategy. You will help senior decision-makers understand how geopolitical events, economic policy and international market developments translate into commercial risk, strategic opportunity and business decision-making.

Working directly with C-suite executives, boards and investment leaders, you will provide commercially focused advice on issues ranging from geopolitical conflict and trade policy to industrial strategy, supply chains, sanctions, elections, regulation and macroeconomic change.

The role combines strategic client advisory with original research and thought leadership, offering the opportunity to influence both client decisions and the firm's intellectual direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise multinational corporates, financial institutions and investors on geopolitical, macroeconomic and policy developments affecting global business.

• Analyse how geopolitical events, government policy and macroeconomic trends impact corporate strategy, investment decisions and commercial risk.

• Lead and contribute to complex client engagements, presenting directly to senior executives, boards and investment committees.

• Produce high-quality research including geopolitical assessments, economic analysis, scenario planning, client reports and thought leadership.

• Develop practical, commercially relevant recommendations rather than purely academic or theoretical analysis.

• Identify emerging geopolitical and macroeconomic themes that will shape client priorities and future research.

• Work collaboratively across regional and sector teams to deliver integrated advice across multiple industries.

• Support business development through proposals, client presentations and long-term relationship management.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate is likely to have:

• Approximately 6-12 years' relevant experience.

• Experience advising corporate clients within a consultancy, geopolitical advisory firm, strategy consultancy, economic consultancy, professional services firm or similar commercial environment.

• A strong understanding of international political economy, macroeconomics, geopolitics and public policy.

• Experience translating complex political and economic developments into commercially actionable advice for senior business leaders.

• Confidence presenting to executive-level stakeholders and managing senior client relationships.

• Excellent written communication skills with experience producing high-quality client reports, briefing papers and thought leadership.

• A commercial mindset with an interest in developing client relationships and supporting business growth.

Experience supporting clients across sectors including financial services, technology, AI, energy, defence, industrials, manufacturing, infrastructure, life sciences, logistics, consumer goods or real estate would be advantageous.

Regional expertise across Europe, the United States, China, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific or Latin America would also be welcomed.

Why Join?

• Join one of the world's leading geopolitical advisory firms.

• Advise C-suite executives, boards and investors on the geopolitical and economic issues shaping global business.

• Apply macroeconomic expertise within a highly commercial advisory environment rather than a traditional forecasting role.

• Work on complex international issues spanning geopolitics, economics, trade, regulation and public policy.

• Become part of a highly intellectual, collaborative and internationally recognised advisory team.

• Enjoy genuine responsibility, direct client exposure and excellent long-term career progression.

This role would suit individuals who enjoy applying macroeconomic and geopolitical expertise to real-world business problems and want to work directly with senior corporate decision-makers on some of the most important strategic challenges facing organisations today.
