Quantitative Commodities Researcher (Metals & Ags) – Miami

Octavius Finance is a specialist executive search firm and a trusted advisor to the world’s most sophisticated investment managers, currently hiring an Economic Researcher in Miami. Operating at the intersection of quantitative talent and high-conviction trading, Octavius has been tasked with identifying an experienced researcher to join a premier global multi-strategy hedge fund. This is an elite opportunity to join a Tier-1 platform, supporting a world-class Commodities desk during a phase of strategic growth. You would have the opportunity of joining one of the most successful trading environments in the world, working directly with Portfolio Managers and Senior Strategists. This role is designed for a researcher with a strong grasp of macroeconomic theory who has a proven track record of applying analytical skills to real-time market execution and systematic alpha generation within the Metals and Agricultures space.

The Role (Responsibilities)

As an Economic Researcher, you will be responsible for translating complex data sets into actionable trading insights and high-conviction strategies:

  • Fundamental Modelling: Develop and enhance proprietary supply/demand frameworks for global commodities, specifically focused on Metals and Ags (Grains, Oilseeds, Softs).

  • Systematic Research: Design and backtest alpha-generating signals incorporating momentum, value, and cross-asset correlation.

  • Macro Analysis: Monitor global economic indicators, including GDP nowcasting and central bank policy, to forecast price volatility and market regimes.

  • Quantitative Infrastructure: Build and scale a library of sophisticated quantitative tools for market positioning, risk appetite, and fair value (FV) valuations.

  • Thematic Strategy: Contribute to internal research publications and trade ideas, bridging the gap between fundamental narratives and quantitative execution.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements)

  • Experience: 2–5 years of professional experience in Economic Research, Macro Strategy, or Quantitative Analysis, specifically within the commodities or financial markets space.

  • Education: A PhD or MSc in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or a similarly quantitative field.

  • Technical Toolkit: Advanced proficiency in computational programming and data analysis is essential. You must be highly capable in building research platforms, automating data feeds, and using statistical modeling software to drive trade ideas.

  • Analytical Mindset: A "quant-mental" approach—combining a deep understanding of economic fundamentals with a rigorous mathematical framework.

  • Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate technical findings clearly and concisely within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

Location

This role is based in Miami, FL, offering the opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing global financial hub with direct collaboration with the London and New York teams.
