Senior Macro-Economist

Octavius Finance is working with an established UK based hedge fund looking to hire a Senior Macro Economist into its investment team.

This is a senior front office role working directly with Portfolio Managers and senior investors, with responsibility for developing differentiated macroeconomic views and producing research that directly informs investment decisions.

The successful candidate will bring significant experience analysing global macroeconomic developments, with deep expertise across monetary policy, inflation, growth, labour markets and fiscal dynamics.

The role requires somebody capable of forming independent views, identifying important turning points in the economic cycle and clearly articulating what those developments mean for financial markets.

This is not a traditional sell side economics role. The emphasis is on commercially relevant research, independent thinking and the ability to translate economic developments into actionable insight for investors managing live market risk.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and communicate differentiated macroeconomic views across major developed and emerging economies.

• Lead research across inflation, growth, labour markets, fiscal policy and monetary policy.

• Identify important changes and turning points in the global macroeconomic environment.

• Analyse central bank reaction functions and assess their implications for rates, currencies and broader financial markets.

• Monitor high frequency economic data and evaluate developments relative to market expectations and consensus.

• Produce thematic, structural and event driven research to support portfolio decision making.

• Work closely with Portfolio Managers to translate economic analysis into actionable investment views.

• Develop robust frameworks for interpreting economic data, policy developments and macroeconomic risks.

• Present views directly to senior investors and contribute meaningfully to wider investment discussions across the firm.

The Ideal Candidate

• Significant experience as an Economist, Senior Economist, Macro Strategist or within a closely related macro research role.

• Background within a hedge fund, asset manager, investment bank, central bank, economic consultancy or highly regarded macro research institution.

• Deep understanding of monetary policy, inflation, growth and global macroeconomic dynamics.

• Strong understanding of how economic developments influence rates, FX and broader financial markets.

• Demonstrable ability to develop differentiated and independent economic views.

• Strong analytical capability and experience working with complex economic and financial datasets.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present directly to senior investors.

• Commercial and investment focused mindset, with a clear understanding of how macroeconomic research contributes to portfolio decisions.
