Asia Economist (China & Japan Focus) – Global Asset Manager | Singapore

We are partnering with a leading global asset manager seeking an Asia Economist to join their Macro Strategy team in Singapore. This is a high-impact role with primary coverage of China and Japan, alongside a broader Asia mandate, sitting at the core of the investment process.

The Role
You will produce forward-looking macro research across Asia, with a focus on China and Japan, while also contributing views across broader EM Asia and developed Asia economies. The role requires translating macro insights into clear, actionable investment themes, working closely with portfolio managers and strategists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop macroeconomic views on China and Japan, with additional coverage across broader Asia

  • Analyse growth, inflation, policy dynamics, and structural trends across the region

  • Translate macro views into investment-relevant insights and trade ideas across asset classes

  • Engage directly with PMs to inform positioning across rates, FX, and asset allocation

  • Monitor central banks and policy developments (PBoC, BOJ, and regional counterparts)

  • Contribute to global macro discussions and cross-asset strategy

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience as a macro economist within a buy-side or sell-side institution

  • Strong expertise in China and/or Japan, with a solid understanding of broader Asian economies

  • Proven ability to deliver actionable macro research that feeds into investment decisions

  • Good understanding of financial markets

  • Strong communication skills and experience working closely with investors
