Octavius Finance is partnering with a premier Global Investment Bank to hire a specialist LATAM Economist for their New York-based Emerging Markets Research team.
This role is a key hire within a high-profile platform covering global macro and emerging markets. Based in the heart of the world's financial capital, you will produce differentiated economic analysis across Latin America, working in lockstep with New York-based EM Trading desks, sales teams, and institutional investors to drive actionable market views.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Regional Research: Lead macroeconomic coverage for the "Big 6" Latin American economies: Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and Argentina.
Forecasting Excellence: Maintain and evolve sophisticated models to forecast CPI inflation, GDP growth, Central Bank policy rates, and fiscal trajectories.
Market-Moving Analysis: Provide real-time analysis of political developments, sovereign risk, and monetary policy shifts to internal stakeholders and external clients.
Trade Idea Generation: Partner with FX and Rates Strategy to translate fundamental research into trade recommendations for the bank’s global client base.
Institutional Client Facing: Represent the firm in high-level client meetings, presentations, and industry conferences, acting as the primary voice on LATAM macro in New York.
Content Production: Author high-impact research reports, daily market notes, and thematic "deep-dive" pieces on regional trends.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: 4–10 years in Economics, EM Strategy, or Macro Research, ideally within a sell-side investment bank or a global macro hedge fund.
Technical Mastery: Advanced capability in building econometric models and managing large macroeconomic datasets.
Regional Nuance: Deep understanding of the political economy and fiscal frameworks across the LATAM region.
Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate complex economic theories into concise, commercial investment insights for a fast-paced trading floor.
Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics or Finance is highly preferred.
Language Skills: Professional fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is essential for primary source research and regional engagement.
